A Clinical and Psychological Study for Alopecia in Children

Abstract
Clinical features of alopecia in children are variable and unpredictable. There have been no clinical studies of alopecia on children in korea.
We performed a clinical and psychological study for alopecia in children in order to evaluate the clinical characteristics and psychosomatic dynamics. A clinical and psychological study of 82 patients were performed with alopecia under the 15

old
from January 1991 to March 1995 at the Department of Dermatology, Yongsan Hospital, College of Medicine, Chung Ang University
@ES The results were summerized as follows:
@EN 1. Average age of alopecia in children was 9.0 years, and 50.0% were primary school students.
2. The most common type was alopecia areata (63.40.
3. Previous episodes of alopecia were observed in 24.05, and family history of alopecia areata was observed in 11.5%(6/52) of patients with alopecia areata.
4. the most common associated disease was atopic dermatitis (26.0%).
5. The eldest sibling or the children with deficient parent-child relationship were more vulnerable group.
6. On the neuropsychiatric consult, the problematic cases were observed in 58.5%(48/82). And neurotic children were most common problem among them(15/48).
7. Effect of treatment in the group treated with an intralesional injection of triamcinolone acetonide revaled no significant difference from the group treated with DPCP.
From the above results it is concluded that alopecia in children were predominently developed in primary school students. Atopic dermatitis is the most common associated disease. The relationship between parents and children is an important
factor
in
the deveolpment of the disease or may contribute as an aggravating factor.
